Cops shoot amok in leg

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 4, 2013): Police were forced to open fire to subdue a mentally-deranged man who ran amok and injured a bystander with a parang in Jalan Riong, Bangsar, today.
City police chief senior DCP Datuk Mohmad Salleh said the 36-year-old suspect went berserk after entering a restaurant at about 11am.
He said the suspect swung his parang, causing customers to scurry to safety.
He said a 59-year-old partially-blind man who was at the restaurant suffered slash wounds when the suspect attacked him.
Policemen rushed to the scene on being alerted and tried to coax the man to give himself up. However, when the suspect became more aggressive, a policeman fired a shot, hitting the suspect on his leg.

S'pore appreciates KL's efforts to check international drug syndicates

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 3, 2013): Singapore is thankful for the efforts made by Malaysian authorities to curb the activities of international drug smuggling syndicates in this country which could prevent them from entering the island republic.
Singapore's Senior Minister of State for Foreign and Home Affairs, Masagos Zulkifli Masagos Mohamad said the tight monitoring of the border by both countries had also reduced the problem of drug smuggling in the republic.
"This operation is really wonderful because through intelligence sharing we are saving lots of people," he said at a joint media conference with Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, here today.
Earlier, Masagos Zulkifli made a courtesy call on Zahid and held a closed-door discussion for 30 minutes which was also attended by Deputy Home Minister Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
"We also wish to learn the anti-drug approach implemented in Malaysia and how such efforts could reduce drug abuse by them (addicts) to the extent that they don't revert to drugs," said Masagos Zulkifli.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid hoped that the collaboration between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore especially in anti drug smuggling and abuse could be maintained. – Bernama
